3-2-1 Backup Architecture
Every business we audit has backups. Perhaps one in five has restores.
A backup that has never been restored is a hypothesis. The difference between the two is invisible right up until the worst day of the company's year — a dead server, a ransomware note, a deleted folder that mattered — which is precisely the wrong moment to run your first restore test.
Sounds familiar?
If any of these sound like your site — this is exactly the problem this service exists to remove.
From our own delivery records.
How we solve it
Three copies, two media, one off-site
The rule is thirty years old and still right. PCs, servers, VMs and Microsoft 365 captured automatically — every 15 minutes for fast-changing data, less often where that is overkill.
Off-site in the cloud, ransomware cannot reach it
The third copy lands in immutable cloud storage — we run both Synology C2 and Wasabi — with object-lock retention and separate credentials, so owning your network does not mean owning your backups. Wasabi adds hot storage with no egress or API fees, which keeps a full restore from arriving with a surprise bill. This single decision separates the recovery stories from the payment stories.
Restores tested on a schedule
A file, a folder, a whole VM — restored and timed. The timings go in your monthly report. Fourteen hours to restore a server is fine to discover on a Tuesday drill; it is a catastrophe to discover live.
Sized against your real change rate
Retention set by what auditors and your industry actually require, storage sized by measurement. Backup estates that were guessed at either overflow or overspend.

Ask the restore question
When did you last restore something, and how long did it take? If that question stings, that is the consultation. It is free.
